Uros Medic Triumphs with KO at UFC Belgrade Despite Torn Meniscus Hours Before Fight
Uros Medic achieved the most significant victory of his career at UFC Belgrade, knocking out Daniel Rodriguez in a mere 30 seconds. This win extended his impressive four-fight streak, further solidifying his position as a rising star in the welterweight division.
Despite the spectacular performance in his Serbian homecoming, Medic faced a serious setback just hours before stepping into the octagon. He revealed in a recent interview with MMA Junkie that he sustained a torn meniscus during a warm-up session early in fight week.
"Honestly, we were just warming up, and my knee popped out of place and was like, ‘Whoa, what is this,'" Medic recalled. "I tried to straighten my leg out, and it popped back in. Straight away I started to fill with liquid and started to swell. I’m like, ‘What the f— is happening?’"
Following an examination, medical professionals indicated it was likely a meniscus injury, though his ACL remained intact. The situation caused significant concern, but Medic's determination was unwavering.
"It scared me; it scared everybody. We were just sitting there like, ‘Guys, listen, we’re going into this fight even if it means with one leg. I’m going to fight this fight,'” Medic stated. "I’ve gone to hell and back to return to my country, and I’m going in there.'”
Medic is scheduled to undergo surgery soon to address the torn meniscus. A definitive timeline for his return to the octagon has not yet been established.
Prior to his UFC Belgrade victory, Medic had secured wins against notable opponents such as Geoff Neal, Muslim Salikhov, and Gilbert Urbina. He has won five of his last six bouts and, in his post-fight interview, expressed his desire to face former champion Leon Edwards.
