Jean Silva's Signature 'Barking' at UFC Opponents: A Childhood Tribute
UFC featherweight contender Jean Silva's distinctive pre-fight "barks" directed at his opponents are not just an intimidation tactic, but a deeply personal tribute rooted in his childhood experiences.
Silva is set to face Jose Delgado in the main event of Noche UFC 4 this weekend. Although originally slated to fight Yair Rodriguez, Delgado will now step in for the most significant bout of his career.
Silva has rapidly become a popular figure in the UFC's featherweight division, securing recent victories against formidable opponents like Arnold Allen, Bryce Mitchell, and Drew Dober. A win against Delgado could position Silva for a potential number one contender fight.
The pre-fight faceoffs often see Silva engaging in his signature "barking," a move widely perceived by fans and experts as a means of intimidation. However, Silva reveals that there's a significant backstory behind this unique behavior.
The Heartwarming Origin of Jean Silva's 'Barking'
In a recent interview with Spinnin Backfist, Silva elaborated on the personal history behind his distinctive pre-fight ritual.
"It goes back to school. Back in the school days, I would’ve considered myself a loner back then, not having many friends to walk around with," Silva explained. "I had a dog, a Rottweiler that was from my brother. It was a really good friend to me, and who hasn’t barked at a dog? That just became a thing for me, and I have a great relationship with the dog. I barked, and it was very instinctive."
He continued, "People thought it was weird, and I thought it was too, but you know what? Good memories from back then; it was a great time and a good memory that I had."
It's highly probable that Silva will extend this homage to his childhood companion to Delgado this week at Noche UFC 4. His unique tribute underscores that fighters are often more complex and have richer personal histories than what is visible within the confines of the octagon.
