Christian Leroy Duncan's Coach: Brendan Allen Was 'Top of Christian's List' for UFC Vegas 122
Christian Leroy Duncan faces Brendan Allen in the UFC Vegas 122 headliner this Saturday. Duncan enters the fight on a five-bout winning streak, aiming for his first UFC main event victory.
Despite being a +108 underdog, Duncan and his team are confident. His coach, Mark Weir, confirmed they specifically requested this matchup. "He (Allen) was at the top of Christian’s list," Weir told BloodyElbow. "Every time we fight, we send a top five list over to the UFC. [...] We never expect to get the number one pick, but we ask anyway."
The UFC granted the request, making this bout the main event. The fight holds significance for the middleweight division, with the winner positioned for a potential title shot.
Duncan has a history of calling out his opponents. His previous fight, a decision win over Jared Cannonier, was also a bout he requested.
"If I remember rightly, I think the last three times we’ve asked for someone, they’ve been given to us. We are aiming high and there’s a risk factor for everyone who’s fighting but so far, Christian’s done his job," Weir added.
Duncan’s professional record stands at 15-2. Within the UFC, he is 8-2, with wins against notable opponents like Roman Dolidze and Eryk Anders. The bout against Allen is anticipated to be his most challenging test to date.
