Ilia Topuria Accuses Islam Makhachev of Evading UFC White House Bout
Ilia Topuria, the reigning UFC Lightweight Champion, has publicly accused Islam Makhachev of avoiding a potential clash at the highly anticipated "UFC White House" event. Topuria expressed strong frustration, alleging that Makhachev fabricated an injury to sidestep their much-rumored bout.
Despite earlier whispers that Topuria might move up a weight class to challenge Makhachev, the Lightweight champion is now preparing to defend his title against Justin Gaethje at UFC Freedom 250. Topuria claims that even when initially told he wouldn't be featured at the White House event, he felt confident he would ultimately participate. When a fight with Makhachev was finally offered, he accepted without hesitation.
However, Topuria alleges that just a day before the official "White House" card announcement, he learned of Makhachev's supposed injury. He views this as yet another excuse from Makhachev, leading to Justin Gaethje stepping in as his new opponent. In a heated statement, Topuria didn't hold back, insulting both fighters' managers and declaring that Gaethje would "pay" for Makhachev's evasion. Topuria confidently predicted a swift and decisive victory over Gaethje, promising a quick finish. With this significant chip on his shoulder, Topuria seems poised for an unforgettable performance.
