Early Life and Background

Born on July 9, 1988, in Chicago, Illinois, Belal Muhammad is the son of Palestinian immigrants. His interest in wrestling sparked during his school years, a passion he continued to pursue while studying law at the University of Illinois. However, his strong inclination towards martial arts ultimately led him to choose the octagon over a legal career.

Beginning His MMA Journey

Muhammad commenced his professional MMA career in 2012 with the Hoosier Fight Club promotion, making a striking debut with a knockout victory over Justin Brock. Later that year, he also found success in Bellator, securing a unanimous decision win against Quinton McCortell. Between 2013 and 2015, Muhammad amassed eight victories across various promotions including HFC, Bellator, and Titan FC, building a formidable record. His impressive run culminated in April 2016 when he captured the Titan FC championship belt, defeating Steve Carl by technical knockout. This pivotal win paved the way for him to sign a contract with the UFC.

The Path to the UFC: Key Bouts and Opponents

Belal Muhammad's highly anticipated UFC debut occurred in the summer of 2016 at UFC Fight Night 90 in Las Vegas on July 7. He stepped in on short notice to face the experienced Alan Jouban, replacing an injured Nordin Taleb. The fight began with Jouban launching aggressive strikes, met by Muhammad's composed defense and precise counterattacks. The intensity escalated in the second and third rounds, with both fighters exchanging powerful blows at a high pace. Despite ending in a unanimous decision loss for Muhammad, the thrilling contest earned both fighters the coveted ‘Fight of the Night’ award.

Undeterred by his debut defeat, Belal returned to the octagon just two months later at UFC Fight Night 94, determined to prove himself against Augusto Montano.
