Vinicius Junior: "At the Right Time, I'll Renew My Real Madrid Contract"

Real Madrid's prominent forward, Vinicius Junior, has moved to quell ongoing uncertainties about his long-term future, affirming his strong desire to remain with the club. While his current contract extends until 2027, recent negotiations for an extension have not taken place.

Discussions for a new deal originally commenced at the start of the previous season but stalled following reports of interest from Saudi Arabian clubs. It is understood that Vinicius aims to be one of Real Madrid's highest-paid players, matching the salary of Kylian Mbappe, a proposition the club has shown reluctance to agree upon. Furthermore, a reportedly strained relationship with former manager Xabi Alonso had previously jeopardized his future, with Vinicius allegedly informing the club he would not renew his contract under Alonso's management.

However, the situation has become considerably more amicable under current manager Alvaro Arbeloa, suggesting Vinicius is now on track to continue his career at the Bernabeu. He conveyed this positive outlook ahead of Real Madrid's crucial Champions League fixture against Bayern Munich.

Expressing his commitment, Vinicius stated, "I hope I can stay here for a long time. I still have a year left on my contract, but I’m very calm. I have the president’s confidence. At the right time, I’ll renew and stay here for a long time, because this is my dream club."

Vinicius Finds Defensive Work-Rate Comments "Annoying"

Another frequent topic of conversation at the Bernabeu this season has been the perceived lack of synergy within the squad when both Vinicius and Kylian Mbappe are on the pitch.

Addressing concerns about playing alongside Mbappe, Vinicius remarked, "People say a lot of things. Kylian is here to help us; his goals give us confidence. We have to be focused tomorrow. It’s a tough match where great players make the difference, and Mbappe is one of them."

While Mbappe recently admitted to a lower defensive workload compared to his teammates, Vinicius conceded that questioning their defensive commitment was "annoying." He elaborated, "Of course it’s annoying, but people are free to say what they want. We have to listen to the manager. What comes from outside doesn’t affect us. We can make each other better."

Vinicius Reflects on "Tough Times" During the Current Season

This season has, regrettably, once again seen Vinicius subjected to racial abuse, with an alleged incident involving Benfica winger Gianluca Prestianni in February. The Brazilian forward acknowledged feeling in improved physical and mental condition as the season approaches its climax.

Vinicius opened up about his personal challenges, stating, "I’m doing very well now. I’ve had some tough times this season, going without scoring and getting booed by the fans, but it was all a learning experience. I’m physically fit. Traveling with the national team changes things a bit because everything changes. I’m working hard at the club and also at home with my physio to be 100% ready for my team."

Real Madrid is scheduled to host Bayern Munich at the Bernabeu on Tuesday night at 21:00 CEST for the first leg of their Champions League quarter-final. The decisive return leg will be held on April 15th at the Allianz Arena.
