While Qatar reportedly expressed a strong desire to retain hosting rights, even briefing as recently as last week that the event would not be moved, ongoing regional conflict has effectively removed the decision from their control. Rafael Louzan, President of the Royal Spanish Football Federation (RFEF), informed Cadena SER that a decision was expected by Tuesday or Wednesday, a deadline which has since passed. Louzan, as quoted by Diario AS, highlighted the complexities: "It's very difficult, and we've cancelled two charter flights. We're awaiting finalisation of the agreement, which involves UEFA and CONMEBOL, but through a company that has secured this match along with five others as part of a single package. Spain stands to gain a substantial amount."

Bernabeu Leads the Race for La Finalissima

By Thursday, fresh reports confirmed the Bernabeu's strong position to host the highly anticipated match, set for March 27th. According to Marca, the organising bodies initially explored alternative venues, including London and Miami, before shifting their focus to European cities like Rome, Paris, or Lisbon. Ultimately, UEFA and CONMEBOL reportedly concluded that the Bernabeu presents the optimal choice.

Argentina Rejects Bernabeu, Citing Home Advantage Concerns

Despite this, the Argentine Football Association (AFA) has, to date, opposed the Bernabeu as the host venue. Their reluctance stems from a desire to avoid granting Spain a perceived home advantage. The AFA prefers a neutral location, similar to the 2022 edition when La Finalissima was contested between Argentina and Italy at Wembley Stadium in London, a match which saw the Albiceleste successfully defend their title. Should the AFA steadfastly maintain its stance, the future location of the event, and indeed its confirmation, remains uncertain.
