Real Madrid Publicly Deny Sporting Director Report

Real Madrid has issued a public statement categorically denying any intention to recruit a sporting director. Recent transfer policy decisions have faced increased scrutiny following disappointing league performances, leading to speculation that the club would seek to bring in a new head of operations for the department.

Currently, the club's decision-making structure involves Santiago Solari, who has previously been associated with the sporting director role but is now considered an advisor on transfer matters. General Manager Jose Angel Sanchez and Head Scout Juni Calafat also hold significant influence in decision-making, with President Florentino Perez having the final say on all club matters.

On Friday morning, following reports of an impending appointment of a sporting director, Real Madrid released a statement refuting the claims. The statement read: "Real Madrid C. F. informs that the information broadcast by the program El Larguero on Cadena Ser last night, claiming that our club is considering adding a sporting director to its structure, is completely false. Real Madrid greatly values the work carried out by the club’s sporting management, which has allowed us to experience one of the most successful periods in our history, including the achievement of numerous titles, among them 6 European Cups in ten years."

The reports from Cadena SER had suggested that Real Madrid might restructure their sporting direction hierarchy and that an external agency was evaluating candidates for a sporting director position. While no definitive decision was said to have been made, it was implied that Sanchez's influence as general manager might be reduced. This is not the first time such rumors have surfaced, as a previous report indicated that Calafat's position was also under threat due to several transfer deals that did not impress Perez.
