Marc-Andre ter Stegen Believes Barcelona Can Come Back Against Atletico Madrid

Barcelona faces a significant challenge in their pursuit of the Champions League semi-finals after a 2-0 defeat to Atletico Madrid in the first leg of their quarter-final tie. Hansi Flick's squad will need a victory by at least two goals at the Riyadh Air Metropolitano to have a chance of advancing, a difficult but not impossible task.

There is considerable optimism within the club that a comeback is achievable, and Marc-Andre ter Stegen is among those who support Flick's team. The former club captain, currently on loan at Girona, shared with TV3 (via MD) his belief in Barcelona's capacity to turn the tie around.

"The return leg is still to come. They can definitely win the tie. They know what it’s like to come back, as do I."

Ter Stegen Hopeful for World Cup Call-Up

Ter Stegen has been sidelined for the past two months following surgery for a hamstring tear, which had cast doubt on his chances of being called up for the 2026 World Cup. Despite this, he remains hopeful of making the trip to North America this summer, provided he performs well for Girona upon his return to play.

"The injury is progressing well; I'm leading a normal life. I feel good, with freedom of movement. The crucial factor is to be healthy, and we'll see at the end of the season. It's complex. I won't rush anything because health is paramount, but there's also a strong desire to be at the World Cup. Many factors are involved, and I respect all decisions that will be made. I am very calm."

The coming weeks will be pivotal for ter Stegen. He is nearing the completion of his recovery and is expected to be back in action before the end of April, giving him a few matches to demonstrate his capabilities to the German national team. It remains to be seen if this will be sufficient for a call-up.
