Agent Confirms Barcelona Contact Regarding Rising Star Christian Kofane

Bayer Leverkusen's promising 19-year-old forward, Christian Kofane, is attracting significant attention from top European clubs. His agent, Eric Depolo, has confirmed that Barcelona is among those who have made contact regarding the talented striker, with Arsenal also reportedly showing strong interest in the Cameroon international.

Kofane's rapid ascent began last season following his move to Europe, where he made an immediate impact with Albacete in Spain's Segunda division. During his impressive half-season stint, he netted eight goals and provided one assist in 20 appearances. This performance sparked interest from several Spanish giants, including Real Madrid, Real Betis, and Sevilla, last summer. Ultimately, Leverkusen secured his services for €5 million, and Kofane has continued his impressive form, contributing seven goals and eight assists in 39 appearances for the German club, averaging a goal involvement every 116 minutes.

Agent Confirms Widespread Interest and Barcelona Contact

Agent Eric Depolo spoke about the burgeoning interest in his client, telling Daily Arsenal, "Yes, Arsenal’s interest is genuine. The manager (Mikel Arteta) likes him very much." He then listed a number of other prominent clubs monitoring Kofane, including Chelsea, Newcastle, Everton, Brentford, and Bayern Munich, in addition to Barcelona.

While Depolo indicated that Arsenal might be in "pole position" due to Kofane's Spanish language skills, which align with Mikel Arteta, and the presence of fellow Cameroonian William Saliba, he explicitly confirmed outreach from the Catalan giants. "Yes, there is contact between me and Arsenal. But their focus right now is to win the league — from there everything will start moving," Depolo stated, adding, "Barcelona had also been in contact with him."

Barcelona's Potential Move for Kofane

For Barcelona, who are actively seeking a long-term successor to Robert Lewandowski, Kofane presents an intriguing prospect. Despite his raw talent and quick adaptation to European football, his young age means he might not be a cheaper alternative on the transfer market. The club could be viewing him as a potential option if more established or experienced targets prove unattainable, or as a strategic future investment to develop alongside their existing squad.
