The highly anticipated RPG from ZA/UM, titled Zero Parades: For Dead Spies, is scheduled to launch on PC this May 21st. PlayStation 5 owners can expect the game to arrive later in the year. PC players will find it available on major platforms including Steam (where a demo has been accessible for weeks), GOG, and the Epic Games Store.
This new title holds significant interest as it comes from the creators of the critically acclaimed Disco Elysium. However, ZA/UM's recent history has been marked by a series of high-profile controversies and internal disputes. Over the past few years, the studio has faced legal challenges and accusations involving former key employees. Notably, several principal figures behind Disco Elysium, including its founder Robert Kurvitz, lead artist Aleksander Rostov, and writer Helen Hindpere, were reportedly dismissed by the studio's new ownership while working on a direct sequel.
These events sparked conflicting narratives and cross-accusations, leading to a prevalent perception within the gaming community that the new management had improperly taken control of a unique universe and creative formula that might not thrive without its original visionaries. This complex situation has been extensively documented, resulting in a traumatic separation and the anticipation of various "spiritual successors" alongside new official projects.
In this evolving landscape, Zero Parades: For Dead Spies is presented as the official offering from the current ZA/UM. Its release next month marks a significant moment for the studio and fans awaiting their next immersive RPG experience.
