Criticism has mounted against the promotion's 2026 matchmaking, which many feel has failed to deliver significant appeal, compelling narratives, or truly engaging bouts.

Despite the commercial boost from a landmark $7.7 billion broadcast deal, expectations for stronger fight cards have largely gone unmet, leading to disappointment with the overall lineup of recent numbered events. This perceived decline is often attributed to factors such as an increasingly crowded event schedule, modest compensation for lower-tier fighters, and a transitional period as previous generation icons retire without immediate, equally impactful replacements emerging.

Jon Anik Concedes Recent UFC Cards Have Struggled

On a recent episode of the Anik & Florian Podcast, veteran commentator Jon Anik and coach Ray Longo discussed the criticized UFC London event. Longo admitted his enthusiasm has waned to the point of skipping some UFC Fight Night cards. Anik agreed with Longo's sentiment, reflecting the mounting dissatisfaction surrounding recent UFC events. He suggested that current matchmaking has been lacking, with many recent cards failing to meet expectations.

Anik candidly stated that recent events haven't provided many compelling talking points. He remarked, “It hasn’t been a great few weeks, to be sure,” acknowledging the current slump. However, he also expressed immense excitement for the upcoming UFC 327, promising a "tremendous card" that he believes will reignite fan interest.

UFC 327, scheduled for April 11th at the Kaseya Center in Miami, Florida, aims to deliver with a championship doubleheader. The main event features Jiri Prochazka facing Carlos Ulberg for the vacant light heavyweight title, while Joshua Van will defend his flyweight championship against Tatsuro Taira in the co-main event.
