Dana White Pledges Support for 12-Year-Old Tumbler Ridge School Shooting Victim Maya Gebala

Twelve-year-old Maya Gebala, a survivor of the tragic school shooting at Tumbler Ridge Secondary School in British Columbia on February 10th, where six people were killed and 27 injured, is set to receive significant financial and medical assistance from UFC CEO Dana White.

Currently in critical condition at Vancouver Children's Hospital, Maya has undergone multiple surgeries and faced numerous complications due to her injuries.

Her family recently announced that Dana White, upon learning of Maya's plight, committed to covering all associated costs. This includes her medical treatment and eventual transportation to Los Angeles for specialized care once she is stable enough to travel.

Maya's mother, Cia Edmonds, shared an emotional update on social media detailing her daughter's progress and the unexpected support:

In her post, Edmonds expressed relief and hope, sharing positive medical updates, including that a persistent abscess shows no growth and may be resolving. She also reported that discussions are underway for Maya to leave the ICU, marking a significant step forward. Edmonds revealed that Dana White personally contacted the family, offering to fully fund Maya’s medical care at one of Los Angeles's leading hospitals, along with providing accommodation. She noted the incredible gesture, mentioning Maya’s name was even acknowledged in the UFC ring.

While Vancouver Children's Hospital has extensive brain trauma resources, Maya's condition previously prevented travel. Now, with tentative plans for transfer to Los Angeles as early as Monday (barring complications), the family can look forward to stability, recovery, and better planning for her long-term care needs. Edmonds concluded with profound pride in Maya's resilience, calling her a "fighter" and expressing renewed hope for her future, stating they are "Livin on a prayer."
