Arman Tsarukyan: UFC Fears My Departure After Winning Lightweight Title

Arman Tsarukyan, a prominent figure in the UFC lightweight division, suggests the promotion harbors concerns that he might depart after capturing the championship title.

Despite his persistent efforts to secure a shot at the UFC lightweight title, Tsarukyan has faced reluctance from the promotion, particularly from Dana White. This hesitation reportedly stems from some of his actions outside the Octagon, which have occasionally drawn criticism.

While undeniably gifted inside the cage, Tsarukyan has occasionally been criticized for self-sabotaging behavior. Nonetheless, he remains actively engaged, participating in grappling matches as he awaits an opportunity to challenge the victor of the upcoming Ilia Topuria vs. Justin Gaethje bout, a fight that could pave his way to title contention.

Tsarukyan's Perspective on UFC's Apprehensions

In a recent interview, Tsarukyan articulated his theory regarding the UFC's stance on his future and the perceived reluctance to grant him a title shot. He stated, “They’re worried that I’m going to get the title and leave the UFC.” However, he quickly dismissed this concern, emphasizing his profound desire to dominate the division and build his legacy within the organization.

“Where am I going to leave if I become champion? I want to be the best in the UFC and stay with the company because they built me and made me a star,” Tsarukyan explained. He further outlined his ambitious goal to break records for title defenses, specifically aiming for “5 or 6” successful defenses, thereby surpassing Islam Makhachev’s current record of four in the lightweight division. Acknowledging his age at 29, he added, “I’m not young anymore, I’m 29, so I maybe have 5–6 years. I’ve got to make a lot of money, be a champ, be the best fighter in the world, and then leave.”
